During my trip to Yunnan, I purchased a Dongba Hieroglyph Dictionary from a local shop. However, as I read through the dictionary, I noticed that some of the content is no longer relevant in modern society. For example, "weapons" are rarely used today, and the clothes we wear and tools we use have changed significantly from the past. Through reading the Dongba Hieroglyph Dictionary, I realized that it lacks elements of contemporary society, especially in the field of technology. This inspired me to design a modern version of the Dongba Hieroglyph Dictionary.The design of the Modern Dongba Hieroglyph revolves around nine themes: humanities, tools, technologies, drinking & eating, clothes & decoration, beauty, transportation, architecture, and travel. The new hieroglyph are based on the existing forms of Dongba hieroglyphs, combined with elements from modern life. This project explores the preservation of traditional culture by integrating it with contemporary living, with a focus on encouraging personal engagement with Dongba culture. By creating a modern version of the Dongba Hieroglyph Dictionary and drawing inspiration from modern life, the newly designed symbols enable Dongba hieroglyphs to be more relevant and usable today.The final outcome not only maintained a consistent illustration style and book design that pays tribute to the original, but also seamlessly incorporated new symbols that resonate with contemporary life.
在云南旅游期间，我在一家商店购买了一本东巴象形文字词典。然而，当我阅读这本字典时，我发现其中的一些内容在现代社会已经不再使用了。例如，"武器 "已经很少被使用了。我们现在穿的衣服、使用的工具也已经与过去大不相同了。通过阅读《东巴象形文字词典》我注意到这本字典缺乏现代社会的元素，特别是在科技方面。我意识到也许是时候创新了。这激发了我设计一本现代东巴象形词典的灵感。于是我开始尝试设计现代东巴象形文字。现代东巴象形文字的设计围绕 9 个主题展开，分别是人文、工具、科技、饮食、服装与配饰、美妆、交通、建筑和旅游。结合了现有的东巴象形文字形态。这个项目通过将传统文化与现代生活相结合来深入研究传统文化的保护问题，重点是让个人参与到东巴文化之中。通过创作现代版的东巴象形文字字典，从现代生活中汲取灵感，创作的新符号融入其中，使东巴象形文字得以在当今更好的被使用。最终的成果证明了项目的成功，既展现了绘画风格和书籍设计的一致性从而有效地向原作致敬，又完美地融入了与当代生活产生共鸣的新符号。
